Drealmer's Tumblr: 19 Tips for Recruiting Great Developers

I guess another tip would be, don't wait two months to get back to an applicant, they may have signed on elsewhere by that time. Really amazing how long some of these HR teams take, you'd think they have hundreds of specialists to plow through. Well, maybe they do and these tips are for losers :)

Well yeah, that's one of the "tips" from the article. The guy says he has already seen companies getting back to candidates eight (!) months after they applied. The thing is that not only chances they are still available are minimal, but also that IF they still are, you should avoid them like plague! It means that nobody wants them, there must be a reason.

And that is no BS. The rest of the story was that a developer who now works for me got a call for an interview from a big computer company (that starts with a D) 8 months after he accepted the job with our firm. He had applied to both places at the same time and had given up on hearing back from them.

I had a similar experience with the exact same company that called me 6 months after I submitted a resume.

In truth, I think what is going on is that they probably ruled us out for the specific job we applied for and didn't tell us, then left our resumes in their internal recruiting database and called us when we matched a different opening. However, they didn't mention it was whether it was a new position when they called back and it made them look insane for taking so long.

BTW: Thanks for the link and kind words about my article.
